There was little explosive excitement as Dell Quay SC celebrated the festive season with a Christmas Cracker race.
Instead, a light wind presented no challenge to the seasonal headgear worn by some of the competitors – the Santa hats remained in place.
One was on the head of Ryan Buchanan who, with Hannah Burke in the family’s RS400, led all the way round the course, well ahead of the other RS400s.
Closest behind was Jason Buchanan (RS 300) but despite no sailing since August, Jason was in strong form and emerged well clear of his brother on handicap, winning by more than a minute.
Bill Dawber sailed his Solo into third place on corrected time, preventing a Buchanan family clean sweep of the prize list as father Malcolm (Solo) had to be content with fourth.
RS400s and Solos shared the honours for largest fleets but the sole Laser, sailed by Ben Chrystall, took fifth.
There was warming mulled wine and mince pies in the clubhouse for all competing – a much more enjoyable alternative to a last-minute Christmas Eve rush round the shops.
