MORE than 500 of the best cross-country runners in Sussex battled over the tough Goodwood course to put down early markers in the first league match of the season.

With every one of Chichester’s A teams finishing in the top ten in their age group, there were some encouraging early-season performances showing great promise for the championship events later in the season.
