INDOOR SCENE

West Sussex’s Premier and A teams hosted Kent in the inter-county championships – and it was the A team who were celebrating.

The Premier team, who started the day top on shot difference over Kent, started badly by losing all four games in the first session. But they fought back with three wins in the second session to trail 10-6 at lunch.

The third session produced only one win and with a win and a draw in the final session they ended up losing 27-13.

In the singles Infinity’s Chris Page lost 12-7 and 15-10. In the pairs Infinity’s Dan Blackman lost 15-14 and 15-9.

In the triples The Martlets’ combination of Chris Blackman, Mel Lillywhite and Marc Lancaster won 12-8 and lost 10-8. In the fours the Southbourne combination of Karen and Dave Alner and Robin Armstrong lost 13-4 and won 11-10 while the Lavant unit of John Simms, Peter Winter and Peter Whale won 9-4 and lost 20-7.

The A team, having lost at Kent at the start of the season, were looking for revenge and started well, taking seven of the eight points and with the points shared in the second session led 11-5 at lunch.

Kent won three of the four games in the third session but West Sussex held on to the bonus points in the singles and shared the bonus points in the pairs.

With the points shared in the final session and West Sussex taking the bonus points in the triples, the final result was a very satisfying win for West Sussex by 22-18.

In the singles Nyetimber’s Freddie Kaucher won 13-10 and lost 18-15. In the pairs Crablands’ Joyce Abel and Martin Hunt drew 12-12 and lost 20-7.
