Fontwell punters will hail a memorable Morestead milestone this evening.
The old campaigner has is scheduled to make his 100th career start – and two fifths of those races have come at the West Sussex track.
The nine-year-old son of Traditionally has entries in both the 32Red.com Handicap Chase and Bet And Watch At 888sport.com Handicap Hurdle on Fontwell’s first evening card of the year.
Trained by Brendan Powell, the durable gelding has raced a whopping 40 times at Fontwell since his racecourse debut in 2007.
He claimed his maiden victory at the track the following year when partnered to hurdles glory by Tony McCoy.
Two of his remaining six career triumphs have also come at the venue – including his latest success in May last year.
Now he is gunning for number eight on what promises to be an emotional occasion for all connected with the popular chaser.
Grand National-winning jockey Leighton Aspell steered Morestead to second behind Malibu Sun at Fontwell last month.
He failed to recreate that form on his return – when seventh behind Comeonginger less than three weeks later.
But at Huntingdon last time out he showed he still has the thirst for the fight with a good second-place finish to Asian Prince.
The meeting will feature seven races. The first goes to post at 4.50pm, the last at 8pm.
