Observer readers can crown a new local sporting star
THE TIME has come once more for an Observer readers to make one young local sportsman or woman a big star.
We want you to decide who should win he big prize at this year's Chichester & District Youth Sport Awards.
In this week's (May 20) Observer are details of the seven sporting stars who have made it to the shortlist for this year's youth sport achievement award.
The ceremony will be held at Westgate Leisure on the evening of Saturday, June 5. The youth sport achievement award will be one of a number of prizes handed out.
Numerous sports – including some that don't normally make too many headlines – are represented on the shortlist.
To qualify for this 'gold' award, a young person has to have played their sport at national or international level.
Hundreds more who have played regionally or at county level will get silver and bronze award certificates at the ceremony.
In addition, six other awards will be handed out on the night – to the team of the year, best volunteer, coach of the year, young person's commitment to sport, outstanding contribution to sport, and for the best one-off performance.
A panel of representatives from Chichester District Council, the Observer and Chichester Priory Rotary Club – who team up to run the awards scheme annually – have been busy sifting through a high number of entries across the categories deciding who should walk away with the gongs.
They've had a tough job – now so have you as you decide which of our seven starlets should win the big prize.
So get the Observer this week, look at the candidates on page 21 and send the voting form into us by June 3 to make sure your vote is counted.
