One promotion dream's dying - another is very much alive
Bosham slumped to another defeat – and effectively saw their chances of promotion go west.
They failed to chase down 145 at the historic Bat & Ball ground.
Bosham made a positive start and had Hambledon 14 for two. Martin Farrell went on to take five for 33.
He was supported well by Tom Gilliatt and John Barnett.
The Hambledon innings closed on 144 for nine, with Bosham the happier team at tea.
But Hambledon had the best possible start after tea when Carrs clean bowled Tom Gilliatt for a duck.
Bascombe removed Sam Gilliatt before Mark Allen sparked a mini-recovery.
He had scored 23 when he mistimed a drive to extra cover.
Despite David Goodman, Lawrence Hembrow and Colin Henderson making starts, they found the going tough and keeping up with the run rate was tough.
It needed someone to step up and score a 50 if Bosham had any chance of claiming a win.
Hambledon continued to take wickets and bowled out the visitors for 96.
Midhurst v Hook & N Basics
Simon Lush (48) and Michael Goodwin (43) set up Midhurst with an opening stand of 86, before Stephen May's match-winning innings of 82 not out. Midhurst posted 217 from their 45 overs.
M Docis was caught by Geoff Smith off Sean Kearney's second ball but a stand of 54 between K Lovelock and S Buckingham revived Hook's hopes.
Hook skipper Vinny Gardner threatened to take the game away from Midhurst but Chris May and ean Kearney shut the door.
Midhurst, back top of division two, play rivals Ryde on Saturday, needing seven points to go up.
