Arun’s elite gymnasts show why they’re top of the tree

Arun’s elite gymnasts were in action in Guildford in their most prestigious competition of the year - the south east regional championships.

The event showcases the best gymnasts from Surrey, Sussex and Kent and the standard of competition is always extremely high.

There’s very little room for error on any piece as medals are awarded only for overall position.

It is a testament to hard work and commitment that Arun were represented in four categories by Olivia Kirkwood, Amelia Rishman, Gabriella Noviello, Lucy Stephenson-Gill, Libby Morton and Molly Evans.

Libby and Molly were both in the extremely strong national-level competitions with Libby competing for her first time in this competition at level five in age and Molly finishing ninth competing in age at level four.

Lucy competed in the modified level four competition and finished eighth, with her best score coming from a third-placed vault.

But it was Olivia, Amelia and Gabriella, competing at modified level five, who had the best results for Arun.

Olivia put in four lovely performances which saw her placed second in the vault and bars, third on beam and fourth on floor, with her combined total putting her fourth overall and narrowly missing out on an individual medal.

Amelia was fifth overall with her best two scores coming from sixth-place finishes on floor and vault.

Gabriella shared joint second on bars and joint fifth on floor to finish sixth overall and although they missed individual glory, the girls’ combined totals were added together and their superb efforts were rewarded with a silver medal each in the team event.

Once again, the girls put in a very good effort that keeps the club competing in high-level gym competitions.
