HUSBAND and wife kickboxers Dee and Daniel Cooke proved a formidable duo at the CIMAC Super League open martial arts tournament.

The West Ashling pair were both in superb form at the event while another West Sussex competitor, Melinda Clifford, also fared well.

Daniel Cooke fights in the men’s senior (brown and black belts) 80kg-plus class, while Dee is in ladies’ novice class for under 64kg. Clifford fought in the ladies’ senior under-60kg category.

Daniel took silver in points dighting and in continuous fighting and Dee took silver in points in her first-ever competition, having only been training since January.

Clifford took bronze in continuous after a brave battle in which she took a severe fall into a table.

Twelve years ago, Daniel came third in the world at the WKA World Championships in Prague - but now, after a ten-year break, he is looking to get back on the British team.

All three train in Chichester with Zheng Dao Lo Martial Arts Academy under Master Omar.

Details of the school can be found at www.zdlmartialarts.com - the club cater for children, women and beginners as well as advanced fighters.

Daniel is now second in the British League - up a place because of his latest success.
