Chichester celebrate national club-of-the-year recognition

Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club (CRAFC) have been named runner-up in the England Squash & Racketball (ESR) club of the year awards.

The club have undergone several changes over the past few years to make big improvements to its facilities and programmes.

They are thriving despite the recession, with more members than ever, including many ladies and juniors as well as the men and vets. An extensive programme of coaching and competition is available for all ages and abilities.

As well as this award, the club also hold the ESR Gold Charter - the highest level of accreditation a club can achieve on the Sport England Clubmark programme. It is the only club in Sussex which holds gold.

CRAFC provide extensive coaching for local schools, reaching out to the local community and running junior drop-in sessions.

New to the programme are junior fitness sessions. Many members play squash and racketball, playing in the leagues, teams, club nights and so on.

Being one of only 11 clubs in the country to have a professional squash league team, Chichester also have top professionals playing at the club.

An ESR spokeswoman said: “Well done to CRAFC on this great achievement. It is an acknowledgement of how much this well-established and renowned club are continually growing and developing.”
