Leonard leads way for Chichester in fun run league

The West Sussex Fun Run League season came to a conclusion with one of its toughest challenges, the Steepdown Hike at Lancing.

Once again Chichester Runners finished in the top group of the 17 clubs at the end of the 17-race 2012 series, although the turnout at Lancing was reduced in numbers because of the demands of the Sussex League at Goodwood the previous day.

Leading Chichester home was John Leonard, capping a consistent season with a fine ninth place and bagging a maximum ten bonus points in the process.

Just missing out on the top 20 in the 250-strong field were Ashley Spratt in 21st and Nick Palmer 25th.

Veteran Tom Blaylock was next home for the club in 62nd with Keith Akerman and Dave Reading also making the top 100 in 76th and 90th respectively.

Other members of the squad were Tony Cooley in 104th, Nigel McNestrie 105th, Jill Renson 131st, Rob Sawers 141st, Sue Baker 154th, Dave Grunwell 196th and Sam James 203rd.
