BOGNOR Regis’ Courtney Hansford has been selected for a national hockey assessment camp after a strong Hurstpierpoint College cohort played in the England Hockey Board Futures Cup.

A total of five players from the college attended the tier two, round-robin competition at the start of the month, which brought together players with exceptional hockey skills.

Hansford was selected for the under-16 Saxon Tigers side for the tournament, along with fellow sixth-form pupil Rob Cope, from Haywards Heath.

Hurstpierpoint head of hockey Chris Wilson said: “Having five players selected to play at the EHBFC is a signal of the dramatically increasing strength of Hurst hockey.

“Some of those players have been selected for the franchises on successive occasions, demonstrating to the rest of the hockey club the high level that can be achieved.”
