Sussex League division three champions Pagham decided to bat but were soon in trouble, losing four wickets for 35 against relegated Pulborough.

Skipper Stuart Rutter steadied things with a patient 48 and with a fine 50 from Joe De La Fuente, Pagham declared after 50 overs on 200 for seven.

James Smilie was the pick of the Pulborough bowlers with four for 47.

If promoted Pagham thought getting their eighth win in a row was going to be a formality they were given a rude awakening when Pete Cotterill’s first over of the Pulborough innings went for 24 with Imran Khan hitting six fours.

Although Khan went on to score 48 off 32 balls, wickets started to fall at regular intervals to the ten bowlers used by Pagham.

Rutter had his first bowl of the season and followed his 48 with two for 14.

Champions Pagham won by 34 runs, notching up their 14th win of the season. Nilushan Nonis ended as the top scorer for the season with 559 runs and Nabib Rehman was top wicket-taker with 36 wickets.
