Southbourne made to struggle on the greens

SOUTHBOURNE
Arundel 43 Southbourne 30
Southbourne struggled to earn one point on a difficult grass green in the Brooks Motors League.
Scores: H Barnett, JC Lillywhite, A Odell drew 18-18 (1pt); J Jennings, J Staker, M Odell lost 25-12.
Arundel 57 Southbourne 48
On a damp, windy afternoon, Southbourne battled hard against lively Arundel.
Skip J Game's triple were 11-9 down at the 11th but a resurgence from his bowlers saw them to a 28-12 win.

Waterlooville 67 Southbourne 60
In the Reflex League, although winning three of the available four triples, Southbourne earned only six points because of being penalised.

In an enjoyable friendly encounter with the Grasshoppers, Southbourne ran out winners by 24 shots.

CHICHESTER
Chichester 75 City Club 106
Chichester were one shot up in their annual match for the Alan Bowler Trophy, but the City Club took control and pulled away to win the match by 31 shots.

A very enjoyable game was had at Billingshurst with Petworth winning on two rinks but taking the match by nine points.

This was a good friendly game of bowls, with Petworth coming good on the grass and winning on three of the four rinks – and by 35 shots overall.

Although Petworth won by 68 shots overall, it was a very good game.

Witterings played at Middleton in the BM Triples Mixed League and won, gaining four points.
Scores: B Cruikshank, R Hanbury, G Thomas (s) won 25-15 (top rink); A Andrew, P White, P Lillywhite (s) lost 22-16.
Witterings played a men's friendly and a ladies' friendly the same day.
The men lost 56-27.
Scores: K Jenkins, M Thresher, M Edwards, B McCombe (s) lost 29-12; A Gibbs, M Lillywhite, T Mulligan, D Purse (s) lost 27-15.
The ladies' won on their only friendly rink.
Results: M Cruikshank, M Aylward, M Mulligan, B Newman (s) won 26-18.
HOTHAM
RAFA 25 Hotham 44
Hotham picked up five points from this Brooks Motors Mixed League win.
Scores: P Ewers, F Peach, T Sayers drew 17-17; P Dale, M Smith, D Ewers won 27-8.
Hotham 43 Chichester 41
Hotham dramatically snatched victory from Chichester on the last end of this mixed league match.
Hotham also won on the friendly triple.

Crablands 83 Hotham 67
Hotham picked up two points at Crablands in the Littlehampton Gazette League.
Scores: B Sandford, P Walsh, D Ewers, P Hannam won 22-12; D Dalton, L Hall, J Whitfield, J Roots lost 25-14; K Hellyer, L Greenaway, P Dale, R Bell lost 23-9; F Peach, B Stabler, B Olver, T Sayers lost 23-22.
STEDHAM
In the Three Counties, Stedham A got back to winning ways with a resounding 5-0 win at Alton Social. The B team kept up their winning form by beating Petersfield 3-1.
The first midweek friendly of the season saw Graffham win at Stedham.
The second in-house competition of the season ended with a win for Terry Berry and Carol Boxall over Stan Glazebrook and Derek Christmas.
NORFOLK
Norfolk's division-three team had two great wins to go top of the table. They took seven points out of a possible ten from Field Place, with Peter Warren and Eric Puttick winning on both rinks, John Collins drawing on his and Don Taffurelli losing by one shot.
They then played Aldingbourne and took nine of the available ten points. Norfolk had three winning rinks and one was a draw.
An exciting game took place in the last round of the Abergavenny Cup when Norfolk played Petworth. One team played at Norfolk, the other at Petworth.
Ken Botting's team, playing away against Mark Lancaster's, lost 23-13. Norfolk's home team, skipped by Roger Ayling against Kyle McGowen, won 28-18. It was a draw and an extra end had to be played.
Norfolk won the extra end and will play a county quarter-final against White Rock of Hastings.
Norfolk played East Preston in the Hotham Tens. Playing for Norfolk in the singles was Lew Mockett, who played Merv Hilton. Mockett lost 21-15.
The pairs featured Ray Leggett and Malcolm Hosking, who won 22-21. The triples was won by Trevor Sandalls, David Mann and Ken Botting 27-16.
The fours lost 21-18 with a team of Dave Richardson, David Poole, Derek Fisher and Roger Ayling. The overall score was an 82-79 win for Norfolk.
