Tale of woe for village batsmen
Reports featuring Walberton, Pagham Nonchalents, Tillington, Emsworth II, Salthill, West Wittering, Aldwick, Lavant and Chichester under-13s are all included in our latest local cricket round-up.
Partridge Green v Walberton
Only four Walberton batsmen made double figures as extras made the
biggest contribution – a handy 30 as Walberton stumbled to 119 all out.
Andy Kemp (20) was top-scoring batsman, with Nick Botting managing a hard-fought 18.
Partridge Green struggled with the pace and accuracy of Luke Vinter, and Nick Jackson saw off both openers, caught by Kane Phillips, either side of Luke Vinter bowling Richard Hanley (3).
When Jackson bowled John Tudhope, Partridge Green were 22 for four. Vinter took two almost identical wickets – Richard Britton and Dan Smith bowled for ducks.
Andy Kemp beat Jonathan Hamley (3), but Joe Tourle (30no) and Luke Woolgar (54no), turned 44 for seven into victory.
Pagham Nonchalents v Tillington
Tillington lost their unbeaten record to a good all-round performance from the Pagham side.
Tillington lost both openers for one. Wickham (23) tried to rebuild the innings but at 60 for six, things looked bleak. Hill (30) and D Hodd (15) pushed the score up to 107.
Misselbrook (4-38) and Cotterill (2-30) did the main damage. Brown (3-8) and Eade (1-18) finished it off.
Murray (3-19) put Pagham on the back foot at 30 for four. Cotterill (31) and 26 not out from Minnet pushed Pagham closer.
Hefty hitting from Colban 18 not out secured a five-wicket victory.
Emsworth II v Salthill
Salthill claimed their first league win and climbed five places.
They won the toss and inserted the opposition.
Graham Ruewell was almost unplayable while youngsters Alex Elsbury and Jack Holder picked up wickets from the other end.
Adrian Elsbury wrapped up the innings with three for eight.
The 91 runs cost one only wicket. Jim Arnold made 49 not out.
West Wittering v Aldwick
It was the Belcher brothers' show as Keelan (5-21), Nathan (20-6-62-4), and Declan (1-19) took all ten Wittering wickets between them.
The home side finished on 149 all out.
Ian Demers (54) tried to win the game for his team along with the Belchers. Keelan made 29 and Nathan 14 but Aldwick just fell short in the end by 16 runs.
Clive Tranchant (3-17) and N Gimble (2-3) saw Wittering to a narrow victory.
Aldwick Acorns v Zambukan Tigers
A ninth-wicket partnership of 26 by Michael Wake (14*) and Adam Robinson (4*) gave the Acorns their first victory of the season.
Batting first, the Tigers, a team of medical workers of the Royal Sussex Hospital in Brighton, were bowled out for 110 in 23 overs.
Bowling honours went to Michael Wake (1-19), Callum Edwards (2-26), Ryan Purvis (2-10), Adam Robinson (1-6), Ian Guppy (1-5) and Steve Edwards (2-12).
Aldwick looked comfortable at 59 for three, with Leigh Monk (16), Ryan Purvis (13) and Ryan Maskell (16) making good contributions.
Paul Bigg-Wither's six for 26 reduced the home side to 85 for eight in a few overs. But Wake and Robinson did not waver.
Lavant v IBM South Hants
A hat-trick, two 50s and a six-for were not enough to win the game for Lavant. They lost both openers cheaply, but Brooker and David Burford added 109 for the third wicket.
Lavant pushed the total up to 174.
Some 112 were required by IBM off the last 20 overs. Davies was struck in the face and stunned by a fierce drive but the Welsh wizard stunned IBM with a hat-trick.
IBM finished on 153 for nine.
Chichester Under-13s v Worthing Under-13s
Chichester got off to a steady start through Freya Davies (15).
Henry MacFarlane (23no), Charlie Futcher (20no), Dom Wood (14no) and Bing Stanley (15no) ensured a competetive total of 118.
Accurate bowling from Olly Clink and Davies (four for 14) thwarted Worthing and Harry Johnson kept Worthing down to three from the
penultimate over.
Davies' last over left Worthing two short of victory.
