Village cricket: Loxwood on the lookout
Reports on Loxwood, Lodsworth, Salthill, Tillington, Kirdford, Westbourne, Ashling, Singleton, Boxgrove, Aldwick and Lavant all feature in our latest village cricket round-up.
Loxwood v Lodsworth
Loxwood batted first on a tricky two-paced pitch. At the top of the order Holmes scratched around for 47 and Lane notched up 41.
A middle-order collapse was rectified by Jefferies (47) and Dudman (33).
Lodsworth threatened to implode as catches went down, but tidy bowling from Hall (3/41) and skipper Long helped.
When Lodsworth set about chasing the Loxwood total of 205 for eight, Brunning and Dean proved difficult to score off.
Hickey (24*) and Braithwaite (80) threatened before Dudman and Jefferies came to the rescue for Loxwood.
Lodsworth finished on 174 for six to earn a draw.

Salthill v Locks Heath
Salthill recorded their second successive league victory, defeating Locks Heath by one wicket.
Wayward bowling allowed Locks Heath to total 242. Only Sean Bevis (four for 35) exerted pressure on the batsmen.
The reply started well with an opening stand of 50, Alec Wallsgrove top-scoring with 73.
Bevis capped a fine display with a beligerent knock and the target was reached with one ball to spare.
Walberton v Angmering
Angmering batted first and Andy Bist struck early as T Vardees was caught by Phil Harbord for a duck.
J Hughes (34) and S Clarke (13) fought back, but soon they were 34 for three.
Bist took four more wickets to finish with seven for 43. Andy Kemp and Kane Phillips took a wicket each as Angmering set a total of 101.
Peter Brackley contributed 31, backed by Murray Springer (5). Ellis Raine matched Brackley before being caught.
Steve Cleall (1), Phil Harbord (11) and Andy Kemp (0) were out, but Richie Lockwood (4) joined Brackley for victory.
Tillington v Kirdford
A club-record eighth-wicket stand of 70 between Spicer and Groves was not enough for Tillington as Kirdford beat them by 13 runs.
Kirdford lost both openers early on a very lively wicket. Youngsters Lywood (37) and Thomas (26) led the recovery.
Upton (25) and Hardie (31) pushed the score on to 168 all out. Murray took three for 50, Clark two for 20.
Kirdford's opening bowlers had Tillington in trouble at 19 for four.
Murray (19) gave them hope until a record stand of 70 between Spicer (49no) and Groves (31), ended by a caught-and-bowled by Hardie.
Vice-captain Noakes was taken ill and Spicer's brave effort was in vain.
Thomas finished with four for 24 and Hardie three for 67 as Kirdford recorded a rare victory over Tillington.
Westbourne v Ashling
Ashling's 197 for six declared set a stiff target for Westbourne which they failed to reach, settling instead for a draw.
Nic Loubser's fourth consecutive half-century included three sixes and eight fours. Matt Sleep made 56.
Bone bowled unchanged for more than two hours, finishing with three for 71.
Tom Ballingal's opening spell sent three batsmen back cheaply and Westbourne were 58 for four.
Phil Dickin's 75 helped Westbourne end on 147 for five.
Singleton v Boxgrove
Boxgrove started cautiously against accurate bowling from Francis Ward and Leon Fisher and lost Read early.
James Thorpe and Ben Gottisman made headway but Gottisman fell to a stunning catch by Martin Davies.
Mark Holl and Thorpe added 151, Thorpe finishing on 124* and Holl 57*. The total of 203 looked good.
For Singleton, Tim Robinson struck a whirlwind 87, adding 94 with Steve Doel (56).
By the time they were out, Singleton needed less than 40 and Will Banks (12) and Martin Davies (20no) finished it.
Pylewell Park v Aldwick
In Aldwick's opening match of their Dorset and New Forest tour, Pylewell Park won a run feast.
Aldwick batted first and got off to a quick start with Ian Guppy hitting 51.
Guppy and Will Pegg (19) put on 55 for the second wicket and Phil Hart hit a ton.
Aldwick set the home side 247.
Skipper Nathan Belcher (2-47) and Ollie Smith (1-32) took early wickets but C Brooks (67), J Royen (48*) and skipper T Gates (80) sealed victory for their side. John Young bowled well for two for 37.
Lavant v Sussex Ukranians
A thrilling run chase left both sides breathless in a pulsating draw.
Lavant could not find a breakthrough, and Ukrainians' top order cashed in. rfield (56) and Semple (61) added 103 and a late clatter of wickets could not prevent Ukrainians posting 193 for eight.
Stevens and Rawnsley picked up three wickets apiece.
For Lavant, Burford departed for 31 leaving Lavant needing 130 off 20 overs.
When Dudley was run out for 38, David Burford announced his arrival with a six.
Brooker struck an unbeaten 64 but wickets fell and 17 off the last over proved too many and Lavant finished six short on 188 for seven.
