Village cricket: Tangmere thwarted ... twice over
Matches involving Tangmere, Salthill, Ashling, Aldwick Sunday, Loxwood, Tillington, Kirdford, Graffham, Goodwood, Lodsworth, Walberton and Chidham and Hambrook all feature in our latest village cricket round-up.
Tangmere v Salthill
Tangmere started brightly against Salthill, rattling up 60 off the first ten overs without loss.
But the bowlers stuck to the job and backed by solid fielding, they kept the score down to 189 from 40 overs. Jordan Goff (four for 33) recorded an impressive debut.
Salthill started more slowly but a quickfire 45 from Tim Longland helped them overhaul Tangmere with three overs to spare.
Tangmere v Ashling
Nic Loubser extended his run of consecutive half-centuries with 63.
Matt Sleep (54) completed his third in as many matches.
Blow took three for 55 but Ashling's 190 for seven declared looked a good total.
Tangmere made a shaky start and soon settled for a draw.
J Bain carried his bat for 76 not out in a total of 126 for five.
Aldwick Sunday v Simmonds
Opener Chris Redman finished on 37 not out for Aldwick.
Skipper Nathan Belcher top scored with 42 and Adam Rutter made 26 as Aldwick finished on 163 for eight. D Lightfoot was Simmonds' best bowler with three for 29.
Nathan Belcher (1-21) and Richard Galvin (3-42) gave their side a good start but Simmonds got back on track.
However, a fiery spell from Keelan Belcher (4-11) with support from keeper Chris Redman (three catches and one stumping) left the visitors all out for 141.
* On Aldwick's Dorset and New Forest tour, they followed two defeats with four wins.
Following defeats at Pylewell Park and Romsey, Aldwick made 182 (John Young 45, Skipper Jay Ahuji 51, Nathan Belcher 51) in a 20-20 game with Centurions. Aldwick won by 37 runs.
At Sway, Aldwick made 137 (P Hart 51, O Smith 22) before the fielding of Adam Rutter and bowling of Dan Cox (2-17) earned victory.
At Ferndown, the tourists were 105 all out (I Guppy 29, A Rutter 24) but Ollie Smith (5-45) and Nathan Belcher (2-24) gave them a win.
Then Aldwick made 107 against Ringwood. Dan Cox (2-5), Ian Guppy (2-4) and Adam Rutter (1-16) helped bowl out the home side for just 86.
Hollybank v Salthill
Salthill elected to bowl first and the opening attack bowled tightly and runs were hard to come by, and after 20 overs the game was evenly poised with Hollybank on 76 for two.
Hollybank spluttered to 150 all out with Shrubb and Elsbury taking seven wickets between them.
Salthill's reply began slowly but Holder (27), Wallsgrove (26) and Shrubb (34) boosted the reply.
Heather (18) and King (12) saw Salthill home with eight overs left.
Findon v Loxwood
Findon's young side batted first and Loxwood's bowlers used conditions well to restrict them to 159 all out.
Jones (3-28), Clarke (2-36) and McDonald (2-10) took the bulk of the wickets. Stephens (24), Lewis (37) and Vernon (33) all got starts.
Jones (21), Russell (20) and Jefferies (54) kept Loxwood in the hunt, but they were 142 all out.
Abinger Hammer v Loxwood
At idyllic Abinger Hammer, Loxwood's openers were both soon back in the pavilion.
Fortunately, batting depth proved handy and the recovery came through a series of 50 partnerships.
Macdonald (22), Russell (54) and Jefferies (49) batted with composure before Wiltshire (33) and Dudman (21*) took the score to 215 for eight.
Loxwood bowled and fielded well.
Brunning made the most of humid conditions and a hard pitch, taking four for 27. But Loxwood couldn't breach the remaining defences and Abinger finished on 148 for five.

Tillington v Rottingdean
Tillington were victors by three wickets in a low-scoring game.
Rottingdean lost both openers with six on the board.
Maker (33) and Rogers (17) made a brief recovery but Hill had Rottingdean faltering at 58 for six.
Tail-enders pushed the score to 103. Hill took five for 47, Murray three for 40 and S Hodd two for eight.
There were excellent catches by Hill and Groves.
Tillington slumped to 31 for four, but 48 in four overs turned matters Tillington's way thanks to Westmore and Hill. Tillington reached their target with three wickets in hand.
Kirdford v Graffham
Stubborn Graffham clung on for a draw to deny Kirdford.
Kirdford got off to a good start through Short (21). A partnership of 94 between Jeffery and Gravenstede for the third wicket was the innings' highlight. Gravenstede went for 65 and Jeffery 47.
Graffham fought back well as the hosts lost eight wickets for 38 runs.
Barratt picked up three for six from four overs and Kirdford were dismissed for 188. Hardie picked up two wickets in the first six overs but O'Sullivan and Yates put on 53.
Graffham slipped to 90 for nine but Pink and Penn saw out the final few overs.
Goodwood v Lodsworth
Goodwood's batting was consistent and Matt Geffen top-scored with 43.
J Miles, Matt Beard, Alex Clifton and Rob Payne took the score to 205 for three.
Veterans Pete Willmer and Dave Smith reduced Lodsworth to 50 for five.
Dimond and Clarke put on more than 100. A great spell from Geffen couldn't stop Lodsworth ending on 180 for eight.
Walberton v Chidham & Hambrook
Walberton batted first and Murray Springer (16) and Peter Brackley (54) gave them a decent start.
Nick Jackson (27), Richie Lockwood (27) and Kaine Phillips (17no) helped Walberton to 172 for eight.
Chidham & Hambrook looked comfortable and opener M Cheshire struck 75 before being caught off Nick Jackson. P Daly's 71no gave them the win.
