A TEAM of cricketing greats are heading for Selsey – and you could win a place among them.
Excitement is growing in the area ahead of the Lashings All-Stars’ visit to play the Selsey Comets for the Sir Patrick Moore Cup on Sunday, June 8.
Tables in the marquee are being snapped up but we have teamed up with the organisers to offer places worth £50 each to eight lucky readers.
To stand a chance of winning one place, tell us in no more than 100 words why you deserve to be at what promises to be a day to cherish for cricket nuts.
You can post your entry to LASHINGS COMPETITION, Sports Desk, Chichester Observer, 8 Eastgate Square, Chichester, PO19 1JN, or email it – calling your email LASHINGS COMPETITION – to firstname.lastname@example.org
The deadline for entries is next Friday, May 23.
Former Test stars including Gordon Greenidge, Sulieman Benn, Herschelle Gibbs, Phil de Freitas, Dirk Nannes and Mohammad Yousuf are in line to play for Lashings.
Selsey have been pushing hard to sell hospitality tables to ensure it can go ahead.
The teams are due to play for the Sir Patrick Moore Cup to mark Selsey’s 180th anniversary and in memory of Selsey’s former secretary and player Sir Patrick Moore.
Organiser Bob Hoare said: “We’re still looking for sponsors and advertisers and we have hospitality tables for ten people for lunch in the marquee – these are £500 per table, or £600 for a table with a Lashings All-Stars player for company.”
For further information, email email@example.com or telephone Bob Hoare on 01243 603962.
The ground and club are due to open to the public at 9am, with a ladies’ T20 match at 9.30am. The opening of the Sir Patrick Moore exhibition by Dr John Mason takes place at 11.45am.
After lunch, the Selsey Comets take on Lashings in a 30-overs-a-side match from 2.30pm. The tea interval will feature displays by cheerleaders and dancers plus the raffle draw.
