Five crew members from Selsey RNLI were called to rescue people who were stranded by the floods at West Sands Caravan Park in Selsey yesterday afternoon.

An inflatable raft, designed for shallow water use, was used to rescue 12 people in just three hours.

Selsey Lifeboats press officer Dave Fotheringham said: "The crew were wading in water up to four feet deep, at times with the water about waist height.

"It was a bit unusual for the crew because they were on the coast as opposed to off the coast as they usually are, but they are trained for every eventuality and that training paid off."
