The museum’s shop has been designated as ‘gym’ with two Pokéstops for Pokémon and visitors have found the popular virtual characters roaming the 40-acre site.

CEO Martin Purslow said the shop had had to buy in more ice-creams to cater for visitors following the Pokémon Go craze.

He said: “It all began when one enthusiastic visitor tweeted me to say that they had caught an Eevee in our car park and I was ashamed to say that I had no idea what they were talking about!

“Now we all know is that the Weald & Downland Museum is a veritable haven for Pokemon Go and its virtual creatures and structures.”

Access to the shop is free, although regular admission prices apply to the museum, which is open daily from 10.30am to 6pm.

Dogs on leads are welcome and free parking is available. Visitors with disabilities are advised to contact the museum in advance of their visit to discuss the easiest way to access the site.
