Last half term, students got to grips with artefacts

Last half term, students got to grips with artefacts

A HOST of half-term holiday activities are on offer next week.

At Fishbourne Roman Palace, children will have the chance to find out what life was like in Roman times.

From the Roman kitchen to Roman school life, bread making, clay and costumes there will be plenty of chances to get hands-on.

Visitors will be able to taste Roman food, make a Roman oil lamp, have a go at weaving, meet the on-site archeologist and much more.

Activities will run from 10am to 4pm from Monday to Friday and are included in the admission price.

“This is a fun-paced day offering a great opportunity to take part in a whole range of activities,” said head of learning Katrina Burton.

“The activities are suitable for all ages and will be located inside, running throughout the day.”

On Monday and Tuesday, a Rugby in the Community holiday course will be held at Florence Park, Chichester, with Chichester Rugby Club and Driving Force Rugby Coaching Ltd. On Thursday, February 21, and Friday, February 22, a Football in the Community holiday course will be held at the University of Chichester with Brighton and Hove Albion FC.

Both courses are open to boys and girls aged six to 15 years old of all abilities.

Participation is ÂŁ5 per child per day.

The Novium museum in Chichester is hosting several activities. Throughout half term there will be a Hands on History event. The sessions give children the chance to get up close and personal with artefacts.

On Sunday, there will be a Mosaic Mania children’s workshop from 1pm to 3pm. The workshop is suitable for children aged five years and older and offers the chance to make a ceramic mosaic mirror frame to take home.

Participation is ÂŁ2.50 per child and advance booking is required.

On Wednesday, a Family Highlights Tour will be held at the museum from 11.30am to midday. Also on Wednesday, from 1pm to 4pm, there will be a family craft afternoon, Spoon Puppet Soldiers.

Children will have the chance to try on a helmet and imagine being a medieval knight or Roman Legionary before making a spoon soldier to march home with them.

On Thursday, February 21, from midday to 2pm, there will be a Finds Identification Afternoon.

Anyone who would like more information on any of the activities can call 01243 775888, email thenovium@chichester.gov.uk or visit the website at
