The Old Vic’s five-star, sold-out production of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible directed by Yaël Farber and starring Richard Armitage will be screened in over 350 cinemas across the UK for two screenings only on Thursday, December 4 and Sunday, December 7.
Cineworld Chichester and Vue Portsmouth are among the participating venues.
Peter Skillman, CEO and co-director CinemaLive, said: “CinemaLive are delighted to continue their successful partnership with Digital Theatre, to distribute this year’s must-see theatre event to cinemas across the country, reaching thousands of people over two nights, who otherwise would not have had the chance to see this sold-out production.
“Digital Theatre’s superbly crafted productions ensure that the cinema environment is the best place to see and hear this fantastic play where Richard Armitage’s performance will surely go down in history as one of London theatre’s best.”
Armitage, who will be continuing his role as Thorin Oakenshield in The Hobbit in cinemas this month, is John Proctor in Arthur Miller’s classic American drama. In a small, tight-knit community, personal grievances collide with lust and superstition, fuelling widespread hysteria in Miller’s parable attacking the evils of mindless persecution and false accusation.
