PEOPLE in Chichester are being urged to make a splash for charity tomorrow (Sunday, June 10) and take part in the Dragon Boat Challenge organised by Chichester Rotary Club.
The event will take place on at the Canal Basin and is being held to raise money for the charity CancerWise which is based in Basin Road.
Co-organiser John Watkins said: “Dragon Boat racing is an exciting way of motivating and integrating people in teams while having a lot of fun.
“It quickly gets everyone working together in a fun, competitive environment and it’s a great platform for team building while most importantly raising funds for local charities.”
The races will take place on the straight section on the canal from the Basin down to the swing bridge over a timed course of 200 metres.
The event will run from 10am to 5pm and there will be two main categories: Dragons for teams of adults and Young Dragons for teams consisting of young people aged 11 to 17.
Competitors are encouraged to arrive in fancy dress.
The event will conclude with a prizegiving ceremony, including a prize for the best-dressed team and prizes for the most money raised, both individuals and teams.
In addition there will be stalls, refreshments and a range of displays in the grounds of the Chichester High schools, and there will also be a professional race commentator on the day.
The racing itself will be run by Dragon Boat Events Ltd which is providing all the boats including a qualified helmsman for each boat.
