AUTHORS: CHINDI, the network of independent authors living in and around Chichester are delighted to be raising money for Dyslexia Action at their ‘Love to Read’ party to be held at the Pallant Suite, South Pallant, Chichester. An event that promises to indulge the senses with a selection of books by local authors, fine wines provided by Hennings and hand crafted chocolates by Noble and Stace. The event will run from 7pm until 10pm with great gifts including signed books by local authors available to buy just in time for Christmas. Entry is £2 which will go to the charity. There will be an exciting raffle to raise further money with books by best-selling authors, holiday vouchers, exquisite perfumes, dinner at local restaurants and delicious chocolates included in the prizes. Dyslexia Specialist, Jaqui Flisher will also attend the event.

COMEDY: Quackers Comedy’s 1st Birthday Party! Come and celebrate the anniversary of the return of regular, live stand-up comedy to Chichester with a chuckle and a boogie! TALK: “A Tale of Two Abbeys: Construction, Reconstruction and Legacy”. The ruined 13th century English Heritage abbeys at Netley and Titchfield are the subject of Christine Bury’s illustrated talk in the Mountford Rooms, Emsworth Community Centre, North Street, Emsworth PO10 7DD at 7.30pm Both these religious houses were founded by one man, Peter des Roches, Bishop of Winchester. Both suffered similar fates during Henry VIII’s reign when they were converted into palatial secular houses for two of Henry’s courtiers. William Paulet, privy councillor, treasurer of the Royal household and later Marquess of Winchester reconstructed Netley, while Thomas Wriothesley, Lord Chancellor and later Earl of Southampton turned Titchfield into his main home.
