IT was the end of an era today (Monday, October 29) as demolition work on Chichester Festival Theatre began.
The original building was in use for 50 years, ending its last performances just weeks ago.
Arts Council England awarded £12million towards the RENEW redevelopment project earlier this year.
The planned works will take 18 months to complete with the Festival Theatre reopening in time for the 2014 Festival.
A live stream of the demolition work can be viewed on the CFT website.
The theatre also sent the Observer the above video of demolition work beginning.
