THE fascinating archaeological excavation at the site of the new St Barnabas House hospice has thrilled visiting locals.
Schools, hospice staff and local dignitaries have been among the dozens who have enjoyed guided tours of the Titnore Road site at the hands of consulting archaeologist Phil Emery and members of Worthing Archaeological Society.
Visiting schoolchildren got their hands dirty excavating, washing and identifying finds in what Mr Emery described as "the perfect vehicle for education".
He said: "The schools really enjoyed it.
"They've got a lot out of it.
"One of the great things about archaeology is that youngsters can find themselves performing quite tricky analytical tasks in maths and geography without really realising it.
"It's learning without pain."
