Artist’s residency at Rock House
Rock House on Cambridge Road (previously known as Rothermere House) is a mixed-use building creating a live/work/club space in the heart of Hastings Town Centre.
The Art School run by Kate Renwick is an exciting new project offering space to local artists to develop and exhibit their work.

Hide AdRebeka is a mixed media artist painting with oil onto photographic prints. She said: “My work is based on the idea that different people perceive the same objects differently. Currently, it is my own perception that I am examining. I use prints of my own photographs to document the scene as captured by the camera. Then, using oil, conté pastel and pencil, I accentuate and create perspective, structure, and spaces. I also record the flow of my eye across the page or through the object. Composition is an intuitive process of play and experimentation until it feels “right’.”
One of her mixed-media paintings ‘Send me on my Way’ was recently long-listed for the Aesthetica Art Prize and was included in their anthology ‘showcasing cutting-edge practice from today’s ground-breaking contemporary artists’. (http://www.aestheticamagazine.com/shop/)
Of the upcoming residency she commented: “I am keen to create artwork influenced by local landmarks, scenery and by the Rock House building itself. I hope that local residents can share their memories of the building with me and give me their photographs to be used in my art work.” Photographs can be sent to [email protected].
Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and by East Sussex Arts Partnership funding Rebeka’s residency will run from June 3 - 13.
