Monday night recitals

The previous Monday we were delighted to welcome back Dr David Flood from Canterbury Cathedral. The large audience gave him a very warm welcome. His programme included the Carillon de Westminster, where the chimes were not quite right, a brilliant Prelude and Fugue by J. S. Bach, and continuing with music by Franck, Peeters, Elgar, a Norwegian composer named Bjarne Slogedal who had arranged variations on a Norwegian folk song which was lovely, a delightful voyage down the Seine in Chant de Mai by Jongen, and concluded with an almost unbelievable playing of the famous Widor Toccata. This was a real tour de force on the Father Willis Organ which is very heavy to play and makes huge demands on the performer. David said that it would save him going to the gym for a couple of weeks! A evening of splendid music.
