The school said this is despite the introduction of the new, more challenging and exam-focused A-levels this year.
The Eastern Road school achieved 38.2 per cent A*s, which is the school’s highest ever figure, compared with 36.3 per cent in 2017.

Hide AdThis is in addition to 82 per cent A*/ A grades and 99 per cent A*/B, which are likely to be some of the best in the country.
Headmaster Richard Cairns said: “With 99 per cent of grades at A*/B, these results are better than any school in England achieved last year. What is particularly impressive is that this is a year group that put so much energy and enthusiasm into life beyond school - and, in particular, their support for others less fortunate than themselves. Only last month they surpassed their goal of raising £150,000 for charity.”
The school also bucked the national trend for declining languages interest. Some 89 per cent of French, German, Latin, Mandarin and Spanish results were A* or A.
