The event was organised by Jenny Ainsworth of Cancer Research UK. Jenny says that this year’s Hastings Race for Life was a great success with 1,040 women and children taking part. “Hastings did us proud on Sunday.” she said. “Thank you to all the mums, daughters, grandmas, sisters, little brothers, cousins and friends who turned out, turning Alexandra Park into a sea of pink.”

Hide AdHastings resident and mum of three Ann Sandeman has been fighting incurable cancer for ten years. Her children, Hannah, 13, Emma, 11, and Ben, 9, all took part in the 5k event. Ann said: “I was one proud Mummy! They all dressed very fetchingly in pink – even Ben!- and they ran their socks off.
“Ben managed to come third, among a field of more than 1,000 people, mostly adults, in 21 minutes, 54seconds!
“Emma was next, having also run the whole way and Hannah, her friend and my friend Jan Phelps then finished holding hands.
“They also baked biscuits and cakes on Saturday night and took them to church on Sunday morning. They stood up and askeked for donations and raised over £200 there!
“I’m so proud of them all!”
