West Sussex assault: Detectives keeping ‘open mind’ over motive

Officers were called to Moat Road in the town at 1.33pm where one man had suffered an injury to his mouth and another a serious head injury, said police.
The latter was airlifted to hospital where his condition was understood not to be life-threatening, confirmed police.

Hide AdThe other man was taken to hospital for treatment by road. Both were conscious and breathing when they left the scene.
Detective Chief Inspector Emma Vickers said: “We are aware that initial reports suggested that a gun may have been involved and we are awaiting further information about the nature of the injuries and witness statements to establish whether that was the case.
“Up to four people left the scene in a grey Fiat 500 and enquiries are now under way to establish their identities and the location of that vehicle. We believe that this incident was confined to these six individuals.
“Anyone with information about the incident is asked to report online or call 101 quoting Operation Deerhurst.”
