The tutor group 7CMK, with the support of their tutor, science teacher Charlotte Kendrick, was chosen as this year’s winners with their rendition of Livin’ on a Prayer, from the 2013 American computer animated film Free Birds.
Jo Clear, assistant head teacher at Church Street, said: “This was a wonderful community event where more than 300 students get to perform on a stage and in front of a large audience, along with lights and a fantastic live band. How often does that happen?
“The competition was excellent again this year with music teacher Dave Berliner bringing out the best in the groups with some very encouraging conducting.”

Mrs Clear was joined by head teacher Nick Wergan, head of French Katie Brownings and four sixth formers on the judging panel.
They placed tutor group 7JLB in second place and 8YL in third.
Mr Wergan said: “It takes grit and zest to sing confidently in front of your peers, and we saw these learning characteristics in abundance.
