Grant of £12,530 secured for Burgess Hill's war memorial

The grant will cover 75 per cent of the cost of the refurbishment which includes conserving and repositioning the statue of St George on top of the memorial column, repointing the memorial and surrounding walls.
The commemoration plaques will be cleaned and protected and the gates to the memorial garden will be replaced with a pair of identical oak gates.

Hide AdThe work will be carried out before the World War I 100th anniversary events in 2018.
Councillor Andrew Barrett-Miles said: “I would like to thank the War Memorials Trust for their generous contribution to help us maintain an important asset of the town.”
Town Mayor Jacqui Landriani said she was ‘delighted’ about the refurbishment.
“The war memorial is such a significant part of the town’s heritage and remembrance, she added.”
