A GOOD QUIZ AT THE BELL: On 16th February, there was a quiz at ‘The Bell’. The questions were all on the year 1987. Proceeds went to St Michael’s Hospice. They raised £130. It was a jolly evening, and very well attended.
Watch the boards outside the Bell for more quizzing dates
There is to be a monthly quiz at ‘The Bell’, which I’m sure will be popular, because Iden folk do seem to love a quiz.

ESCAPISM-BRING IT ON: Anything which takes us by the hand, and leads us into temporary oblivion is most welcome isn’t it, be it music, a good book, a film, or an art gallery, where just staring at one picture, and moving on to the next, allows us to step out of our world and into another. My Grandad used to spend hours reading the paper from cover to cover, and I used to wonder at something so mundane. It isn’t though, I see that now, because a glimpse into what the world is up to is high in escapism. President Trump, Brexit, and an apparent glut of celebrities giving birth to twins. It’s all there. Since we got Amazon Prime, I’m unashamedly glued to TV series, box -set stuff, or films. I love it. I’m watching A chick-flick [something romantic], or an American cop show, where they’re on the streets of San-Francisco chasing the bad guys. The down-side is that whatever escapism leads us away from is still there waiting, the electric bill, the washing up and the potatoes that won’t peel themselves. I was going to do a pudding from my Mary Berry book, but right now It’s just too much reality. I’d rather watch Clint Eastwood in his poncho, tying up his horse, saying nothing, while the look on his face speaks volumes. A DVD of ‘The Good The Bad And The Ugly’ makes me feel that I am right there, chasing a chicken around the yard to fry up with beans and grits’? I get immersed in Westerns, but isn’t that the object of escapism. Maybe we’ll just have a pizza!
