Lancing 'explosion': Cause revealed after firefighters battle huge industrial fire

Crews from across Sussex were called to a scrap metal recycling plant just after 1pm after reports of an explosion.
A large fire soon took hold, with smoke billowing into the air and visible from miles around on the South Downs and along the coast.

Hide AdDespite being brought under control on Friday evening, a spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (WSFRS) said firefighters remained at the scene all throught the night and were only able to close the incident at around 2.50pm on Saturday afternoon.
The spokesman said the cause of the fire was believed to be accidental.
"“WSFRS would like to thanks business owners and the public for their understanding and assistance during the incident whilst roads in the vicinity were closed," he added.
