Open day to encourage Shoreham Coastwatch volunteers
The National Coastwatch Institution’s Shoreham lookout station is located next to Shoreham Fort, off Forthaven on Shoreham Beach.
The role of the volunteers is to spot, plot and report, acting as the eyes of the coastguard and keeping records of movements in the water.

Hide AdGeoff Aspel, public relations officer, said: “Coastwatch is having an open day on Sunday, September 13 at the lookout on Shoreham Beach.
“Everyone from age 18 to 80 is welcome to come along and visit the lookout, talk to the watchkeepers and find out what Coastwatch does, and see if they would like to train to become a watchkeeper.
“If they can spare up to 16 hours a month, they would become part of a team of trained individuals who help to keep the coast safe.”
Over the same weekend, there will be a special Worthing and District Amateur Radio Club event held at the lookout station for the third year running.

“As in previous years, an aerial will be assembled and a radio transmitter will be operated at the lookout. We expect to log over 150 contacts from around Europe and the world. Everyone is welcome to come along.”
