At the Vets: Don’t just rely on love at first sight to find a pet
Those of us who’ve visited rescue shelters know only too well that when all eyes are on you, choosing who to take home is one of the toughest decisions you’ll ever make; so you really must ask yourself a few important questions.
For example what exactly are you looking for in your pet; canine jogging partner or cat to curl up on your comfy sofa with?

Good rehoming centres know every pet’s backstory, personality, even specific individual needs, so ask loads of questions to help them guide you in your search to find a perfect match.
Don’t be offended if they don’t think you’re right for that pet, staff care deeply about their pets so want to ensure they find safe, loving, forever homes where everyone’s happy.
Once you’ve identified your favourite pet request spending some quality time with them. Stroke them, feed them, even indulge in a little playtime and see how you get along. Better still take your new canine companion out for a walk – a perfect opportunity for you both to stretch your legs and begin bonding.

That can be all it takes when looking for your perfect four-legged friend so please try not to let your heart rule your head as impulsive adopting is usually a bad idea.
Instead reserve your potential new pet and sleep on your decision. Your new rescue cat or dog is going to be a lifelong commitment so please always make sure you’re able to provide the loving and nurturing home they fully deserve.
