There are currently around 920,000 people living with these conditions in the South East and it is responsible for over 21,500 deaths each year. The BHF is fighting back through its life saving research. To date BHF research has helped halve death rates from heart and circulatory disease over the past 50 years, transforming treatments for heart attack to pioneering the surgical techniques that ensure most babies now survive congenital heart disease.
However there is still a long way to go. Across the UK there are 7million people living with these conditions but thanks to the public’s generosity, the BHF can continue to fund essential research which will mean a better future for so many.
