Reading about the plight of the Mayor, Cllr Donin, receiving a car parking penalty while on official duties only partly served to assuage the anger and frustration that I felt.
Town Centre manager Sharon Clark may bravely assert that town centre footfall is increasing, suggesting that shoppers are not put off by the difficulties of parking and the costs.

I am sure that many motorists share my experience and will not use the town centre unless it is absolutely essential. Using the bus or walking into town is an option for us, but again is sufficient to deter one from making a town centre trip.
Thus we avoid all the town centre restaurants and daytime events and shopping trips we would like to enjoy and go for out of town activities where parking is much easier.
I am sure many others make the same decision and town centre businesses must miss out big time as a result.
