My dad ran a group of shops in the High Street (18-20 I think) right by an entrance to Hare’s Garage – now a block of flats?
There was a shoe shop, tobacconists, ladies and gents hairdressers and the Silver Grill (?) restaurant.

I seem to remember round the corner from us, in Surrey Street (?), was an electrical shop Bellchambers, and I used to play with their son who had lovely Meccano set in a large wooden box.
For a while we lived in a flat above the shops then moved to Rustington, where we lived next door to the Hobdens.
Their children were David and Mary and I went to local schools including the PNEU and Goring Hall.
