Scarecrow thanks to Bonfire Boyes
Sadly, when an application for the sum of £75 was presented to the council for consideration, it ended with the Mayor, Cllr Richard Bye, using his casting vote against the motion having earlier supported the idea of helping towards printing costs for the Battle Scarecrow Festival during the debate! This is an event, mind, that also brings visitors into the town and hence supports our town centre and other interests local to Battle – and no monies were allowed to be granted.
Some residents have had a difficult time understanding the difference between the merits of the two applications relating to the festivals.

Hide AdOn Sunday at the Medieval Fayre, I was truly amazed and gratified to be approached by a member of the Battel Bonfire Boyes and told that they were going to donate £75 towards the cost of the Scarecrow Festival as they were so disappointed with the decision by the town’s councillors.
Can I use your paper to render my heart-felt thanks to them? Their generosity restores my faith in the local community that we are able to enjoy in Battle!
