Thank you, youngsters
The Rotary Club invited all members of Sidley Friendship Club, which is run for people over 50 years old, and most attended. Those without transport were collected from their door and taken to the hall.
There they were greeted by Rotarians and also pupils of St Richard’s School. We were shown into the hall and given a welcoming cuppa.

Next we were entertained by two Land Army girls (well ladies, actually) who sang all the old songs and brought along many items of interest - gas masks, old irons etc. To see the look on the ladies and gents at the tea, who were immediately transported back 50 years, was amazing.
More singing from the Land Army girls followed, and this time the St Richard’s pupils got up and danced with guests. To see 13 and 14-year-olds dancing with people in their 70s and 80s was absolutely brilliant.
At the last minute I was unable to take my husband along, so instead, took an elderly lady who has worked very hard bringing up her grandchildren. She just could not stop talking about the tea all the way home and said she hasn’t had such a great time for years.
So a very big thank you to the Rotary Club and the pupils of St Richards. You did us oldies proud.
