Lewes council is supporting the Government proposals for the new network of local hubs, which was announced today (March 26).
It is expected the government, supermarkets, and potentially the army will work together to deliver groceries and other essential items to the 1.5 million people who have been sent a letter by the NHS to isolate and shield themselves against coronavirus.

The list of long-life food includes UHT milk, tinned tomatoes, baked beans, rice, pasta, biscuits and cereals. Packaging has also been secured for any future deliveries.
Councillor James MacCleary, deputy leader of Lewes District Council, said: “I’m looking forward to hearing the detailed government plan for the distribution of food parcels and how local authorities can dovetail with that effort.
“I’m also delighted that we now have a support plan for Lewes and Eastbourne should it be needed. Our staff are excelling when residents need them most and they deserve our most grateful thanks.
