Hide AdTony Whitbread, chairman of the South Downs Network, said: “We’re very grateful that Hilary Benn has found the time to visit Ditchling to unveil the plaque, commemorating this historic moment.
“It was a hard fought battle to achieve this status but one that had overwhelming public support.
“Many people were involved with the process and the achievement of the National Park is a tremendous legacy to all their hard work and vision.
“The National Park has made a real difference in the short time it has been in existence and while there is much to do, there is plenty to look forward to in the future.”

It was set up when the South Downs Campaign was disbanded after the Campaign achieved its purpose of getting the South Downs made into a National Park.
