Plan to change hotel in to flats faces battle
Roffey Homes now wants to demolish that hotel, overlooking Splash Point, and build 34 flats there in a six-storey replica building with associated underground parking.
Planning officers have recommended refusal to the scheme, which will be discussed by the borough development control committee on Thursday. There have been 20 objections to the plan but 32 letters in favour.

Hide AdOfficers say they are not satisfied the loss of the old hotel could be justified since it is a listed building in a conservation area.
They fear the replacement building was too big and bulky and would detract from the character and appearance of the seafront, though they have some sympathy with a residential scheme on the site.
