Campaign to get Blue Plaque reinstalled in Eastbourne

Friedrich Engels - a Revolutionary in Eastbourne is the title of the meeting which is on Zoom on Thursday December 10 at 6.30pm.
This year marks the bi-centenary of Friedrich Engels’ birth.
Engels co-authored the Communist Manifesto with Karl Marx.

Hide AdA spokesperson for The Socialist Workers Party Eastbourne branch said, “Engels was ahead of his time. He wrote about environmental destruction, the oppression of women, and racism and the slave trade.
“He also loved Eastbourne. He spent many holidays here and wrote his last letter in Eastbourne. His ashes were scattered off Beachy Head on August 27 1895.
“Some 81 years after his death the plaque to his name, at 4 Cavendish Place, was defaced and it was permanently removed.
“On the bi-centenary of his birth we celebrate his contribution to revolutionary socialism and hear about the campaign for the reinstallation of a plaque in his name.
