Scouts get to grips with a survival weekend
A trial ‘Survival Camp’ took place on the Normanhurst Estate, near Battle.
Total of 22 Scouts attended, representing Little Common, Sidley, Crowhurst and Ninfield.
Camping conditions were ideal throughout the weekend. Using natural materials bivouacs were built for purpose of sleeping.

Hide AdNo cutlery was used; also no mobile telephones or other electronic devices Use of tarpaulins and penknives were permitted.
Cooking took place using altar fires The weekend was devoid of all usual Standard camping equipment -- no tents, no saucepans, no cooking tools; only use of tinfoil and metal coat-hangers.
The main challenge was to skin and cook (dead) wild rabbits.
All Scouts survived.
