Stables owner opposes plan for 160 homes in Storrington
Developer Gladman Homes has submitted plans for the homes and a children’s play area in Fryern Park to Horsham District Council.
However, the owner of Fryern Hollow Stables said the development would make it unsafe to continue training her competition horses in a neighbouring field.

Hide AdThe stables’ owner, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “We got the letter just before Easter and we were just horrified, basically. It took me a long time to take it in.
“We only know about the foul water drainage proposals because I spent Easter reading through the planning application and supporting documents. Otherwise we would be in blissful ignorance.
“The developers haven’t had the courtesy to tell us about it let alone discussing it with us.”
Outline planning permission for 160 homes - 56 of which would be affordable - along with an informal open space and play area have been included within the proposal.

Around six to eight horses, some of which are retired, are kept in the field in Storrington at any one time.
The owner said: “They would need to quadruple the size of the sewage pipe to accommodate the development site. That would be right across our land.
“It won’t be safe to keep the horses on site and the time it will take the land to recover would affect all our summer grazing.”

Hide AdShe said Gladman Homes are proposing the installation of ‘online storage’ by Southern Water, as the capacity of the current sewer pipework is insufficient for the development.
The work required would be across 60 per cent of the stables’ grazing land and close to their schooling area, making them unsafe to use for the duration of the work.
The application number is DC/16/0572.
