Tributes to Sir Phillip
Sir Phillip, who lived in Arundel, was appointed Lord Lieutenant in 1994 and retired in 1999.
He had a long and distinguished military career and was made commandant of the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.

Hide AdAfter leaving the Army in 1978, he took on various public appointments including chairman of Queen Alexandra Hospital Home in Worthing (1978-1999) and communar, Chichester Cathedral (1980-1983).
There will be a private family funeral, and a memorial service will be held at Chichester Cathedral on March 14, at 11am.
Paying tribute to Mr Ward, the present Lord-Lieutenant, Hugh Wyatt, said: "He took an immense interest in the young people of the county and never spared himself in his role."
"All who came into contact with him used to speak of his love of people and his life-enhancing qualities. The county will be poorer for his passing and he will be greatly missed by those who knew him."
He is survived by his wife, Pamela, four children and numerous grandchildren.
