Updated: Coastguard called to Hastings Pier
After checking the scene with the coastguard helicopter, it was decided that there was no danger to the public and the teams were stood down.
The pallets and loose timber washed up on the shore a couple of hours later.

Hide AdIt was initially thought that the wood had fallen from the pier - but the Hastings Pier Charity say this is not the case.
A spokesperson said: “We pride ourselves on the health and safety record of the works and take great care in the work.
“We know for certain that no wood or pallet dropped off the pier.”
