Gyokeres, who is on a season-long loan with the Hamburg-based club, came off the bench to slot home the only goal six minutes from time in the Bundesliga’s second tier. Albion team-mate Leo Ostigard played the full 90 minutes for St Pauli.
The celebrations were somewhat different as St Pauli usually play in front of 25,000 fans at the Millerntor.

“We got into the game in the second half and I was pleased to get my goal. I'm happy that I was able to help the team get three points.”
St Pauli coach Jos Luhukay said: “The atmosphere was difficult but I thought the players adapted well. We played a strong opponent who caused us problems but Viktor’s was a good individual goal and finish.”
Former Albion Markus Suttner and Uwe Huenemeier were also in action as Suttner's Dusseldorf and Huenemeier's Panderborn contested a 0-0 draw.
